Labour and birth support

I offer labour support whether it is at home or in hospital (as in the case with an induction). You let me know when you’re getting contractions and feel you need the support. I will come to your home and be as unobtrusive or “hands on” as you need me to be. I can offer all the “tricks of the trade” -massage, TENS machine, heat packs, show you how to use water and change of position to cope with labour and/or show your partner or other support team members how to assist you with these tools. I will monitor you and your baby’s wellbeing by checking the baby’s heartbeat, your pulse, blood pressure and temperature and can also do an internal examination to assess the progress of labour if necessary. I will keep your OBGYN informed of labour progress and in conjunction with you, your doctor and your partner, decide on when it’s appropriate to go to the labour ward.

In labour ward I will continue to be your advocate and assist you. You, your baby and your partner are my primary concern and regardless of how busy the hospital is I am your midwife/labour support. I will assist your doctor with your birth and endeavour to meet all your “birth wishes. I will help you to put your baby to the breast and the “clean up” after the birth. If you have an unplanned caesarean section, I can accompany you to theatre. If the baby’s condition allows, I will make sure your baby gets put on your chest (skin to skin) and help you latch your baby as soon as possible after birth. My aim is to make each and every birth experience the wonderful, empowering, awesome experience it is meant to be
